Two Little Sheds

Bodie, California

Drawn by Neil A. Pfafman / HO Scale

Many people have a shed or two in their backyard that are used for storage, a workshop, or maybe a train layout. Here are two that were built in Bodie over 100 years ago, and are still standing. Sheds seldom make the news, so I know little about these sheds. I do know they have survived despite rain, snow, fire, or scrapping.

Shed A is located behind the Boone Warehouse (see March/April 2017 Gazette) but I do not know what it was used for. It was built, or moved, to its present location after the June 23, 1932 fire. It had an electrical hookup at one time, and it could have housed a small business of some sort.

Shed B is located across the street from Shed A, behind the morgue (May/June 2015 Gazette) and looks to me like it has spent most, if not all, of its time at this location. Directly behind Shed B is the Miners Union Hall (March/April 2018 Gazette). Shed B appears to have been modified, and there may have been a large door on the back wall to allow wagons, perhaps a hearse, to be driven through rather than backed in. When the addition to the Miners Union Hall was built, it blocked access to that door.
